Laura Petersen is a science writer who covers the environment, wildlife, ecology and oceanography.

Petersen has been documenting the community around her since 2005 — from the beach towns of San Diego, California to the halls of Congress in Washington D.C. She is fascinated by the natural world and strives to translate complex topics like climate change and ocean acidification into engaging and accessible stories for the general public.

She has been a staff reporter for E&E Publishing in D.C. and the Solana Beach Sun in California. Her work has also appeared on the New York Times and AAAS MemberCentral websites. She is a member of the National Association of Science Writers.
